I am Diya Marla, an 11th-grade student at Harrow International School, Bangalore.
From a young age, I’ve always tried to observe the world around me closely, trying to understand how spaces are divided to dictate “who belongs where,” often pushing many women to the margins. It is my ardent desire to change the limitations caused due to this, which led me to launch Safe Steps – my first step towards helping the people around me.
I’m passionate about subjects ranging from business and psychology to computer science and mathematics. I am also deeply drawn to using these disciplines to foster meaningful change. At school, I serve as a club manager for the GirlUp chapter and have volunteered with Each One Teach One, teaching English to children from underserved communities in Bangalore.
Beyond academics and social work, I spend my time engaging in co-curricular activities – whether it’s participating in Model United Nations or sharpening my skills in equestrian and swimming. I’m always seeking opportunities to better understand and interact with the constantly evolving planet around me.
Through Safe Steps, I hope to create tangible change in the lives of women in Karnataka, empowering them with both the physical and emotional resources and support they need.
